To make matters worse, a Cardiff player committed an unnecessary foul in the penalty box by pulling the shirt of Reading's Mills which resulted in a penalty and Long converted the resulting penalty at the stroke of half-time.
Cardiff were not able to rise their game in the 2nd half and constantly gave the ball away, continued to miss good chances and sending poor deliveries in the box. Reading were rarely threatened in the 2nd half and the match would had ended 5-0 in Readings' flavor if they had not missed 2 sitters.
